Nelson, Willie; Pipkin, Turk (2006). The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart. Gotham. p. XII. ISBN 159240197X.

(Songwriting) It's a gift. It all comes from somewhere. I started out really young, when I was four, five, six, writing poems, before I could play an instrument. I was writing about things when I was eight or 10 years old that I hadn't lived long enough to experience.

We are the same. There is no difference anywhere in the world. People are people. They laugh, cry, feel, and love, and music seems to be the commons denomination that brings us all together. Music cuts through all boundaries and goes right to the soul.

Willie Nelson

This was the 10th anniversary of Willie Nelson's Outlaw Tour. I have to say I only recently began to appreciate his artistry. He is 93 years old and that is a good reason to sit to perform. His voice shows his age a bit but his singing was quite good. I did not realize that his guitar playing is so good. If he has arthritis it does not show. He started playing a couple of medleys of his well known songs. It was, for me late and there was a long late ride home. As luck would have it as I was half way up the steps to exit in launched into a trademark "On the Road Again. Very impressive. This is a photo of one of the giant screens. Outlaw country is a subgenre of American country music created by a small group of artists active in the 1970s and early 1980s, known collectively as the outlaw movement, who fought for and won their creative freedom outside of the Nashville establishment that dictated the sound of most country music of the era. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, David Allan Coe and Jerry Jeff Walker were among the movement's most commercially successful members. The music has its roots in earlier subgenres like Western, honky tonk, rockabilly, and progressive country, and is characterized by a blend of rock and folk rhythms, country instrumentation, and introspective lyrics The movement began as a reaction to the slick production and limiting structures of the Nashville sound developed by Chet Atkins and other record producers.[Wikipedia]
