Biography

Sarah Ann McLachlan (born January 28, 1968) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. As of 2025, she has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. McLachlan's best-selling album is Surfacing (1997), for which she won two Grammy Awards (out of four nominations) and four Juno Awards. She has won three Grammy and twelve Juno Awards in total, and is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Located on Yonge Street in central Toronto, Eaton Centre is a major urban shopping complex. And I happen to be staying just a block away. Outside the walls, I see two billboards from Eaton Centre location of UK-based HMV Records. They are advertising new album releases from two recording artists who both happen to be Canadian; on the left is Taking Chances, the newest studio album from Québec's pride and joy Céline Dion, and on the right is Closer, a "best of" compilation from Sarah McLachlan, Order of Canada and Order of British Columbia, who was born in Halifax and currently lives in Vancouver. I do enjoy both recording artists, Sarah Mac in particular.
