Quotes

“I had the radio on.”

— As quoted in TIME magazine when "asked if she had nothing on in the photograph [for a 1949 calendar]" ("Something for the Boys." Time 60, no. 6 (August 11, 1952): 90)

“For life: It is rather a determination not to be overwhelmed. For work: The truth can only be recalled, never invented.”

— Marilyn's diaries, as quoted in Fragments (2010), by Stanley Buchthal and Bernard Comment

“It's a bad habit, I know, but I believe that you shouldn't do anything in life until you're ready. Half of life's heartaches come from decisions made in a hurry. One should make haste slowly.”

— On her lack of punctuality, as quoted in "Tardy but Talented" by James Bacon (AP), The Louisville Courier-Journal (July 17, 1960), p. 84

Marilyn Monroe

Claimed to be a Birth certificate of Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926. The birth record was created by a local registrar on June 5, 1926, and this certified copy of that information was issued by a Health Officer & Registrar on October 24, 1955. It was photographed and then used for the 1981 article about the death of her father, Edward Mortensen, as depicted on the certificate. Mother was Gladys Monroe; Monroe was a surname that Marilyn Monroe officially used. According to the original caption: Monroe's film studio, 20th Century Fox, stated that her father died when she was a baby but this certificate shows that Edward Mortensen, who had claimed to be her father, was alive until 1981.
