Randy Neil with Rita Hayworth in 1977 at a National Film Society convention in Washington D.C.

This was one of the last public appearances, maybe the last, of Rita Hayworth. She lived ten more years in declining mental and physical health, dying of alzheimer's disease in 1987. This photo was taken in early November, 1977 in the Palladin Room at the Shoreham Americana Hotel in Washington DC at a National Film Society convention. This was one of Rita's last official public appearances, perhaps the last. She is accepting the National Screen Heritage Award. We didn't know it at the time, but she was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. This photograph is used on Wikipedia with an incorrect date of 1978. www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1977/11/03/rita-... Scanned from the original black and white 35MM film negative.
