Escobar shot down on a rooftop by Colombian special forces (Bloque de Búsqueda, or Search Bloc tactical team) under Lt. Col. Hugo Aguilar near the Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex in Medellín, on December 2, 1993. Aguilar's son, Lt. Hugo Martínez, located the hideout in the Los Olivos neighborhood, ultimately resulting in Escobar being killed by a Colombian National Police sniper. Escobar was cornered and shot while trying to escape after being tracked via a few minutes long phone call he made to his son. He was shot in the head, torso and feet during an exchange of gunfire as he jumped across rooftops. He and his bodyguard died on the spot, ending his reign as the Medellín Cartel's leader.

The first vehicle Pablo Escobar owned was this modest Renault 4 you see on display; he used a similar one for his early car races. Later, thanks to his enormous illicit fortune, he would amass one of the world's largest car collections, including this Mercedes Benz limousine, which was one of his last acquisitions. It ended up ruined, like everything else Escobar owned.
