Ibach Art-Case piano from a sketch of Prof. Emanuel von Seidl for composer Richard Strauss. The pianofactory Ibach made two of this grand pianos, of witch Richard Strauss did choose one for his villa in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Richard Strauss piano that has the production numer 56279 is still in the same place, in the Strauss villa. This piano has the serial number 56278 and its the second piano, that Ibach used for exibitions, after Strauss did choose the other one. This is from the original sketch of Prof. Emanuel von Seidl. Richard Strauss had a change done on his piano, the cheeks had been cut out afterwards, to make it possibe for the audience in his villa to see the hands of the piano players.

Always a more or less stormy petrel in music, Dr. Strauss resigned recently as director of the Vienna opera. Some sort of quarrel caused him to quit. His Rosencavalier will be given its first Chicago hearing next season, with en:Edith Mason singing the role she sang when the work was presented by the Metropolitan."
