This badge is a red flag-shaped badge of Kim Jong Il. It is the variant which uses the portrait introduced after his death in 2011, and is believed to be the most recent flag-shaped badge of Kim Jong Il. Other badge variants used a far younger portrait of Kim with a white circle backdrop behind the portrait. In the upper left corner the badge is adorned with the symbol of the Workers' Party of Korea. As a graphic design it is directly based off of an authentic badge of the same type from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
