Close up of some interesting graffiti next to one of the standard Helvetica signs at the Franklin Avenue-Fulton Street rapid transit station along the BMT Franklin Avenue Line in the Bedford–Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York City. As the Queen of Soul was dying under hospice care in August 2018, somebody decided to honor her by unofficially renaming the station. Needless to say, I wasn't sure anyone would've seen this graffiti in the previous photograph, so I took another.

Some very interesting graffiti next to one of the standard Helvetica signs at the Franklin Avenue-Fulton Street rapid transit station along the BMT Franklin Avenue Line in the Bedford–Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York City. As the Queen of Soul was dying under hospice care in August 2018, somebody decided to honor her by unofficially renaming the station. Other similar acts of noble vandalism were carried out throughout various locations within the New York City Subway system during the period surrounding her death.

Standard IND mosaics along the Washington Heights-bound platform of the Franklin Avenue IND Fulton Street Line section within the Franklin Avenue-Fulton Street New York City Subway station complex in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York City, with a contemporary Helvetica sticker above it saying "Respect." I'm going to go out on a limb and take a guess that this sticker was to cover some graffiti from 2018 honoring the late Aretha Franklin during her dying days. Sort of a way for the MTA to say "we don't tolerate vandalism, but we know how you feel." UPDATE: MAY 7, 2019: Two news reports from Billboard Magazine and WPIX-TV (Channel 11) confirm this action.
